Gossip and Robert Pattinson: Take a Stand Already
July 7th, 2009 | filed in: Internet/Bloggers, Press

gossip-and

This is an interesting article about the pervasiveness of Robert Pattinson gossip in the tabloids, the way it damages people, and whether fans are ready to take a stand about it.  Are we?  Give us your thoughts.

Standing in line today, at the grocery store, I got physically ill. Please, allow me to tell you WHY. Normally, I don’t bother even looking at those crap gossip rags, the horrible tabloids that do nothing but spin lies, and alter the truth so horribly that you couldn’t find one shred of decency in it if you TRIED, today was no exception.

What got to me today, though, are the headlines about Robert Pattinson. I know he’s “IT” and “Golden Boy” of the moment (forgive me Rob) and people want to capitalize on that, strike while the iron is hot, so to speak, but I, for one, can’t stand it. Is there no integrity left in this world? Is his soul only worth $3.99 of horrible fallacy to you?

I know that the magazines, and I use that term loosely, are only printed because of supply and demand. Which tells me that instead of wanting to know the truth about Rob, people tend to gravitate towards the things that make him into something he isn’t.

I put this to the true Robert Pattinson fans, admirers, what have you, out there.. do you really believe that he is the person they portray him as in the Gossip Magazines? Or do you read them because you find them entertaining?

If it takes me relishing in lies, someone else’s pain and embarrassment to be entertained, then I’ll opt for being bored for the rest of my days.

Do I judge people for reading them? No, to each their own.

However, I have to say that you should read up on Rob, familiarize your self with who HE is, as much of him as he lets be seen that is.

It seems to me, that most of the Twilight Saga cast are fairly private, and they are entitled to that privacy.

Rob is no exception to the rule. If he doesn’t even like watching his movie Premieres, if he prefers to stay inside out of the public eye, do you really believe he’s some dark, sinister playboy by night, and charming Don Juan by day? Come now. Not that he doesn’t have it in him, we’ll pretend for a moment that he does, but he isn’t one to flash that around.

I have said this time and again, I grow tired of repeating it, but since constant vigilance is my mantra, I’ll continue with it…

Celebrities are people, just like we are. They are not infallible, they are not flawless, they should not be placed on a pedestal. They deserve privacy, and more importantly respect.

Think about it this way..maybe it’s fun to you to read malicious gossip about a celebrity, because they’re “untouchable” “unreachable” to you, but what if YOU were in their shoes? What if it was your son, daughter, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, someone that meant something to you on a personal level? Would you WANT to see those headlines? Would you spend your $3.99 to be entertained THEN?

It breaks my heart to know that we have become so apathetic and indifferent to the plights of others, that we allow trees to be sacrificed, just so we can read bullshenanigans (thank you Jackson Rathbone for the use of that word) about celebrities. Sacrifice trees for education sake, classic literature, poetry, prose, art, instruction manuals, fine, but to lower ones IQ? It’s a travesty.

Those that run these Gossip mags, laugh all the way to the bank, and will continue to do so, until we take a stand.

You love Robert Pattinson ? Jackson Rathbone ? Kellan Lutz ? The rest of the Twilight Saga Cast? If you do, PROVE IT.
Show them some respect. When you’re in line at the grocery store, or wherever you see them, pick them up and turn them around. Do not pick them up and read them, and most certainly do not purchase them. Will it stop the crap rumors? No, but it will make an impact.

It only takes ONE person to make a difference, to take a stand.
Be the change you want to see in the world, and it’s contagious. Others WILL follow suit.

This is mostly the main reason I have your site as my only source of info about Robert. You’re always serious and respectful about him and the things you published.
Keep it going, those of us who really care for him will never disrespect him, because it hurt us to see him hurt.

Hooray!! Someone else is with me on this!! I feel absolutely horrible to see anyone hounded by the media like this, especially our Rob. I can honestly say I have not nor do I intend on purchasing any of these mags. When online I glance over the gossip pages but usually if it looks like he’s been ambushed while trying to have some private time I don’t look at the article. If it looks like something that maybe a publicity outing such as Cannes then I will read the story. I understand that as an actor you willingly give up some of these freedoms but I don’t think it is fair to have all your privacy taken away. As excited as I would be to have the chance to meet him or get a photo op I would never ever “rush” him or paw at him like he was a piece of property. I would love to see everyone boycott this type of journalism. We should start a movement to protect Rob’s privacy.

Great post Tracy!

I would never waste my time nor fund any of the nasty ass smut mags! With same respect..would not educate myself on Rob Pattinson’s life! I am guilty of checking out 3 web sites..this one being my fav, Pattinson Life and time to time I might check out Daily location Vacation to check filming stats..considering I live in NJ..too close not to enjoy seeing Rob in the flesh showing his creativity as well as other actors on the set of RM! I like SR and PL ohhh..also like Pattinson Online, the same reasons analisa mentioned above.I like Rob for his artistic creativity, the movies he picks (I loved Little Ashes!! Hope it makes it the US DVD!) I truely believe he is what he is..thats a great guy with a kind heart, loyal, not affraid to be himself and is very giving to his fans. I do not however believe in all this shit about his feeling on hating NY and NY woman! NYC is only the start of all the craziness )well Cannes was alittle nutso!) keep in mind…this movie is actually the 1st for Rob since Twilight…London might have been more laid back, only because he was not a mega star back then as he is now. Same has been the story from actors, James Dean, Marlon Brando, Robert Redford, Ryan O’Neill, Burt Reynolds, Jack Nicholson, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Keanu Reeves, Leonardo DiCaprio etc….I worked w/Leo’s Mom on a documentaryfor Earth Day..it was insane…but guess what?? It does calm down, he just needs to lie low til the next “OMG Actor” is noticed. It is his tween and adult fans that make him a “Super Star” like it or not…as far as fans chasing him, stalking him, grapping him in a choke hold, this is not cool….but come on!! He is not a “pussy” or a lame “weak ass” as some write to make money for any type of story that will catch interest and be a stab-in-the-back to Rob for not being more co-opperative on posing for the un-professional few Papz like that guy Steve…interupting the shoot and being a TOTAL ASSHOLE to the Director and rest of the cast! Anyways, sorry this is turning into a novel guys! My point is…NYC is only the 1st in a long list of cities, countries to come…I feel in my heart…Rob is not a weak individual…and he will get through this as many others did before him…just do not hope he shuns sp? his fans and or admirers that truely care about him…not just his characters he portrays!

I totally agree w/you, Tracy. I love your site though I hardly leave any comments but I do admit for visiting other blog which I also enjoy that posts the scans & articles of those bullsshit, load of crap all the time. (they only do it to make fun of it and are disgusted as well, so they say.. :(
I maybe too old to admire & adore a young star like Rob, but I really came to love, admire & respect his talents and what he has to offer to his fans & to the world.
I’ve never bought those rag mags before but I’ve flipped thru them & laughed about it, but from now on I make a vow to never even touch it or like you said, turn it around to cover them up to make a statement! :)

I totally agree! I have never bought or read tabloids and definately would never believe a word they write. I do enjoy when they actually interview him, I then know what is coming out of his mouth is true, unless of course he is joking (our Rob does love to do that)! I did buy the GQ with his interview, not always 100% sure they are always true either. I love Rob and all the cast of Twilight, do not think they deserve to be treated in this manner.
