“Twilight” fans rejoice: Fangy Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson may be descending on Ithaca this summer to film a big-screen book adaptation at Cornell University.
Rumors are rampant that a production team for Fox 2000′s Depression-era drama “Water for Elephants” will be on campus in June to film scenes for the movie, which centers on a Cornell veterinary student who drops out and joins the circus after his parents are killed.
Pattinson, the 24-year-old British actor who shot to fame portraying brooding vampire Edward Cullen in the blockbuster “Twilight” series, is said to have signed on to play the role of central character Jacob Jankowski.
Cornell University press officer Blaine Friedlander said he was unable to confirm whether the school would be used as a film location.
Bruce Stoff, marketing communications manager for the Ithaca/Tompkins Convention and Visitors Bureau, said it would be a big economic boon for the area if it was.
Stoff is not sure how much filming would take place nor how long it might last, but said his office gladly would work with the studio to help arrange permits and other logistics. His staff does have some experience working with film crews, although most have been of the TV variety, as few big box-office productions have occurred here.

The big title is “Little Ashes,” which stars Robert Pattinson (of the “Twilight” series) as artist Salvador Dali, who experimented with homosexuality as a young man and had an affair with playwright Federico García Lorca (Javier Beltrán).
The festival will offer Q&A sessions with some of the filmmakers, plus opening- and closing-night parties (including a “Little Ashes” bash with Spanish music, tapas and sangria).

“Robert Pattinson to attend Cornell University,” an obscure Web site called gather.com reports, claiming that the heartthrob star of the “Twilight” vampire series will appear in a movie to be filmed in Ithaca in June.“Robert Pattinson, a Brit who enjoys nature should really enjoy Cornell, that is if he is a good scholar and get [sic] his lines down and his American accent right,” gather.com wrote. “To be sure, the ‘Twilight’ star will surely enjoy this lovely campus in a place that resembles the Scottish highlands when the film ‘Water for Elephants’ reportedly goes on location to ithaca [sic] starting in June… The college town is a lovely escape from urban chaos, with historical buildings of pariticular [sic] interest.”
The plot concerns a Cornell vet student who, after his parents are killed in a car accident, leaves Ithaca to join the circus. Purportedly, Sean Penn will co-star with Pattinson. If true, Ithaca could face invasion by thousands of teenaged girls this summer.
Showbiz bible Variety reports Pattinson and Penn are “circling” the project.

The GREAT thing about this prospect is that Ithaca is 160+ miles from home. I think I may have to visit and represent!

Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson is king of the vampires. He topped True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård and “New Moon’s Taylor Lautner by a wide margin in an Improper poll.
The final results are in after fans cast nearly 8,000 votes. Rob leads with 66 percent of the vote, followed by Alexander with 21 percent of the vote and Taylor with 13 percent.
Rob’s dedicated fans turned out in droves to express their feelings for the star of the “Twilight” series. Taylor is building his own fan base since his star turn in “New Moon” but Team Taylor is no match for Team Rob.
Skarsgård has been developing a dedicated following just like Rob ever since being cast in 2008 as the sexy vampire Eric Northman in the hit HBO series “True Blood.”
The poll also included “New Moon’s” Taylor because of the outstanding job he did in the “Twilight” sequel and the rise of “Team Jacob,” the legion of fans who support the hot young actor.
Outside of the Twilight series, Taylor is developing a career as an action-adventure hero. He has considerable martial arts skills.
While Rob’s fans are still the most dedicated and most active, Taylor made a late surge in the voting whittling away both Rob’s and Alexander’s leads.
Rob’s margin of victory fell from a preliminary tally of 72 percent to 66 percent and Alexander slipped to 21 percent to 26 percent of the vote.
Taylor surged from a distant third with only 2 percent of the vote to 13 percent.
The gorgeous 6′4″ Swede will show off his superfit physique this season as his bad-boy character has more provocative sex scenes with both male and female characters. Rob also has a bad-boy aura that makes him irresistible as Edward Cullen.
