I was lucky enough to attend the London premiere of Remember Me and meet Robert Pattinson and Emilie De Ravin earlier this month. Rob and Emilie chatted about their film, their roles in Twilight and Lost, and lots more. In Part One of this series of interviews Robert reveals how he felt during the fight scenes, how he views father figures, his role in Bel Ami and his relationship with his friends and family. Stay tuned for the next installments!

  • On playing brooding types, and whether he’d consider a lighter role: “I did the kind of lighter stuff before Twilight came out, and it just so happened that Twilight’s become so much about the archetype of the brooding person. I mean I never thought that Tyler was that brooding to be honest [laughs], and then I just get it at every single thing, people saying, “brood, brood, brood” — I hadn’t even heard the word before Twilight! I guess I like to play broken and troubled characters because it seems more interesting, especially because I’m not that broken and troubled myself.”
  • On his new roles: “I’m doing something now [Bel Ami] that’s still quite dark, but the guy, his character isn’t so fractured, he’s just someone who’s incredibly focused and has a lot of confidence in himself, and nothing can shake his confidence. And then after that, I think there’s a kind of lighter thing as well. I don’t know, it’s not really that they’re angsty it’s just that joy seems to be more a universal emotion in script, it’s quite difficult — if you’re happy, you’re happy.”

To find out what Rob had to say about fighting, fathers and friends, read more.

  • On how the character of Tyler developed: “The script changed so much over seven months and just had loads and loads of re-writes. I tried to tailor things to what I was interested in, like the relationship with the dad changed quite a lot because I thought one of the things when you’re a young guy one of your biggest fears is this irrational fear of walking in your dad’s footsteps and living the same life as him. I thought, even if your dad’s a good guy, you just want to assert your independence on everything and it causes these irrational sort of rages.”
  • On his own fighting history: “I haven’t been in a fight in quite a long time, I think I’m too scared now. I think if I got in to a fight now, somebody would just kill me just for the sake of it [laughs]. I liked a lot of Tyler’s character, the rebelliousness and audaciousness of it, it’s like a fantasy of myself, like yeah, I’m the kind of guy who just randomly gets in fights. Yeah, I do it all the time. But, not really [laughs].”
  • On filming the fight scenes:
Producer Nick Osborne: “I felt scared for you because the day you were doing the Chris Cooper fight, Chris was doing press-ups against the wall [laughs].”
Robert: “Yeah, he’s like unbelievably strong, he’s terrifying. And the fight I was having at the beginning I was doing it with this big stunt guy and I kept hitting this thing against the wall, next to his head. Then I was hitting him with what I thought was my full strength, I hit him in the head about four times and every time I hit him, I was like, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry’. And he’s like, ‘It’s fine, it didn’t even hurt’. Yeah, that was kind of an ego deflater!”
  • On his friendship group: “It’s nice that I’ve grown up with the same friends since I was 12, I have a very close knit set of them… I grew up with a lot of people who a lot of other people regarded as heroes, and no one ever came to me for advice, no one ever came to me for protection, and so I don’t ever really think I’ve been looked at as a hero.”
  • On who he considers his hero: “Outside of my family, I don’t really know. They’re great people and my parents are great parents, and they brought me up very well, I think. I don’t know, I think that’s about all the heroes I’ve had.”

Stay tuned to find out what Rob had to say about his Twilight fans, how Emilie feels about Lost ending, how they perfected their New York accents, and what biscuits they love!

A rather exhausted looking Robert Pattinson talks to inthenews.co.uk about his new film Remember Me at its premier in London’s Leicester Square.

Following what appeared to be an exhausting few hours on the red carpet, ‘RPattz’ and his most recent leading lady Emilie du Ravin made their way into the Odeon for the premier of their new film, and to talk to yet more journalists.

Glowing in a black lace cocktail dress with terrifyingly high heels, the tiny Emilie du Ravin looked at ease next to her co-star. Poor Pattinson however, who has become synonymous with the Twilight brand and now attracts hundreds of screaming young girls wherever he goes, looked drained after his hours spent talking to fans, signing autographs and ‘biting them’. “I’ve been up since 6am” the heart-throb said wearily.

Nicholas Osborne, Remember Me’s producer, said the Twilight star was on board from the start: “I’m very proud to say that Rob read the script in the parking lot of an In n Out Burger! And it was two months before Twilight came out and Rob signed on and stuck with the project and from there everything snowballed.

“Rob [who is also executive producer on the film] always wanted this project to be handled a certain way and so we consulted with him on the script and various things along the way.”

Emilie (looking surprised) says to Robert: “I didn’t even know you were [executive producer] when we were filming!”

So what makes someone like Robert Pattinson choose a little known film such as this? He says: “I read tonnes and tonnes of scripts over the summer after I’d done Twilight, I mean hundreds, and all of them seemed exactly the same, but this one, initially just because the way the dialogue was written, seemed more naturalistic than most things.

“And also Tyler as a character – it seems that most movies that have a young male protagonist as the lead, they either have to be a virgin to begin with and have to learn everything during the movie or they always have to go through the trials of the movie and end up a completely different person afterwards. But Tyler seemed like he came with a lot of baggage, and a developed character, and just ended up being developed in a slightly different way.

“You just never see that in films any more, especially not with young people, and that’s what initially drew me.”

Both Emilie and Robert have difficulties, with their fathers in the film, played by Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan, but how was it playing alongside such famed actors? Emilie says: “I was over the moon when I found out Chris was playing my dad, I’ve been a fan of his for years and think he’s just incredible. He’s a very intense person but very giving.”

While Robert added: “When they first talked about the father role I never ever would have thought that it would have been someone like Pierce playing Charles.

“But I think he has this innate likeability about him, as soon as you meet him. And Charles on the page was someone who was very domineering and quite a strong character, and Pierce, just by being Pierce, changed the whole dynamic of it. It was great, as it made it a much more interesting relationship I think.”

Robert’s younger sister in the film, played by Ruby Jerins, has a very sweet relaitionship with his character Tyler. Robert easily sung the little actress’s praises: “I always wanted a younger sibling and Ruby is one of the best actresses I have ever worked with.

“She is surprisingly articulate about her character, and when I first met her she seemed like a very, very normal kid, and then the more she talked about her character and her character’s development, she could just improvise for hours and she was so comfortable working in front of the camera, and she was really amazing. It was really easy to do anything with her.”

But how was it for him stepping out of the ‘Twilight’: “I never like anything [films], so it’s very easy to decide what to do! Even movies I’m not in! I’ve never felt any pressure to do anything. Even when we were filming it I never thought about the box office or anything.

“It’s not a Twilight movie, its an original screenplay. And it doesn’t fit into any genre. They don’t make movies like it anymore, and that’s the only criteria I really have if there seems to be a gap in the market for something then I just try and do that.”

While Emilie added: “It [the film] didn’t read like script, it read like a letter, it was so honest and organic in that way.

“[Lost] has been a big part of my life and it’s been a great ride. It’s kind of bittersweet that it’s ending.

“I’m glad it’s ending on a high note, but obviously you miss certain things about projects.”

The film, set in New York, deals with some tough issues, but Nicholas Osborne says they were all pleased with how it came out: “We had a lot of New Yorker’s on set, and we had a lot of New Yorkers who had been affected by the events in the movie, and we had a number of cops in the movie who were affected by the events as well, and they all read the script and fell in love with it and felt it was an important story to tell.

“We always felt good about that, that they gave it their stamp of approval.”

Gossip Cop felt an unpleasant tingle in our knee this morning.

It either means there’s rain coming, or Famous magazine put a certain Twilight twosome on its cover.

“For weeks Kristen Stewart has known there’s something wrong in her relationship with Robert Pattinson,” writes the tab.

Stewart “doesn’t know exactly what it is” but “says she can feel Rob drifting away.”

Here we go.

And what’s the major problem for the pair?

They’ve been “separated by intense work commitments,” Famous explains.

The tab even digs up an “insider” who reports, “They’ve barely seen each other these last few months” with Stewart promoting The Runaways in the United States and Pattinson filming Bel Ami in London.

Wow! This “insider” must have incredible access… to mainstream media and maps! How else would anyone have the inside “scoop” that two heavily-booked actors have professional commitments requiring frequent travel?

While filming Twilight in Vancouver, Pattinson and Stewart got “used to seeing each other all day, every day,” whispers the mag, whereas “now they are on different continents — and it’s really testing their relationship.”

And what (besides the inconveniently placed Atlantic Ocean) is supposedly imperiling the couple?

“Friends believe that the actor is upset over the performance of his new film Remember Me,” asserts Famous. A “close source” adds, “He’s so upset, especially as [The Runaways] is doing great and everyone is talking about what a massive career [Stewart] has ahead of her.”

OK, let’s stop right here.

Robert Pattinson — who’s in London because he’s filming a highly anticipated movie, and around whom casting rumors swirl every week — is so consumed by jealousy of The Runaways (two weeks before its wide release) that his ego is now terribly “bruised” and his relationship with Kristen Stewart on the brink?

Gossip Cop suspects it’s actually another “bruised” ego at work here.

It might be the “bruised” ego of Famous magazine, which has been very wrong, very often on the subject. Like its claim that Pattinson and Taylor Lautner were embroiled in feud (wrong), or that Lautner and Stewart were “caught” in an “affair” (wrong). Or the mag’s insistence that Stewart alienated everyone on the set of Eclipse (wrong), but would be touring Australia with Pattinson (wrong).

More recently, of course, Famous whined when the pair didn’t live their personal lives according to the mag’s approved timetable.

Gossip Cop will toss this newest example of the magazine’s Robsten “journalism” into the same garbage bin.

Our 2 reader were on the Bel Ami set today too.

Ilejja’s report:
Rob arrived at 1 PM with the “famous black car”, which carry him everywhere.
There was a small group, they stand next to the building, I joined them and I had a very good view. The crew shooted inside the building and in a restaurant but Rob comed out of it often, he walked in his trailer. When this happened, lots of girls started to scream. Later the black car was there again at our side, Rob appeared and the girls started to run that way and they screamed. Rob waved then he was gone.
We talked the head of the security and they said that they must protect Rob and they cant allow the fans near to him, not even for autograph or a picture, because the producers of Bel Ami are afraid, that Rob would tell us something from the movie. The security guy said that if we scream or go wild, they will take us from the set, buti f we stay in silence and away from the security zone everything will be fine and we can take pictures.

Barbica’s report in short version:
Some girl talked to Rob’ personal assistant who was very lovely, and she said that Rob is very happy that the fans are here, but he is not happy that we make pictures from him. And the assistant said that Rob asked personally to keep the fans away from him…

The girls were a little disappointed, when they heard this news, but they can understand Rob is here for working, not for posing with fans or taking pictures with them. But they still hoping :)

Kudos to the Hungarian fans for being very respectful while visiting the set! =)

The beginning – the reporter:
The security is as tough as for the Dalai Lama and for the British dukes together, but they are not that charming as Rob. :)
But their reporter had a chance to go little bit closer, but first he had to watch for hours, how the Hungarian street (Andrássy út) transformed to a 200 years old Parisian street.
After the first pictures:
The Robert Pattinson’s fever has broken in Budapest. Hundreds of screaming fangirls was waiting for the Twilight’s star. The teens idol is shooting his newest movie, Bel Ami with other famous actresses in the Hungarian capitol.
The TV shows reporter was following the 23 years old actor’s first day in Budapest.
The 1st girl: I am waiting for him to come outside, just to see him a little bit.
The 2nd girl: He is really handsome man.
The 3rd girl: He looks good in the costume.

The actor’s first big role was in the Harry Potter movie as Cedric Diggory. He was one of the competitor against Harry Potter in the Triwizard Tournament. But the real world’s fame was arrived with the Twilight movie. For the last 2 years everywhere thousands of fangirls are screaming for him with each appearance. The third part of the romantic vampire saga’s preview was seen here in these TV shown two weeks ago.
hen Rob’s speaking about how the New Moon movie is 10 times bigger than the Twilight was.

On Sunday early morning (5:30) cars arrived with horse trailers to Oktogon. The Andrassy street has transformed completely. Because the Bel Ami movie takes place at 1890′s in Paris. They had to scatter sand/dirt to the road between the buildings, street signs, advertisments and show-windows was created to show how the old Paris could look more the 100 years ago. But it is not a surprise that they are shooting here in Budapest instead of Paris, because the closing the Andrássy street for a day costs for the production around 2,5 million Hungarian forint (9500 EUR) plus extra additional costs. And still much more cheaper than it would have been in the french capital.
Meanwhile in the back of one of the Hungarian 5 stars hotel Kristin Scott Thomas appeared with her small dog. They started to walk after they went to the shooting scene by car. The actress was playing one of the main role in the English Patient movie.

At 3 o’clock in the afternoon couple of dozen fan was waiting just beside Robert’s trailer. The door opened, but the star jumped in the car right away and went to the another scene. The screaming girls were running after the car. :)
At the Operahouse at least a hundred people are waiting already. The reporter could shhot how the did the make-up for Rob just next to a trailer.

Just couple of minutes and the shooting is starting. In this scene Robert is reading the newspaper before the newspaper’s stall. The whole Robert Pattinson’s craziness continued today in the Szabadság place. The actor locked up in his trailer today as well, but the fans was waiting consistently.

The 4th girl: He doesn’t want to come outside to speak, and the security was covering the whole place to not see anything at all.
The 5th girl: I haven’t seen him, but hopefully today I can meet him.
The 6th girl: Possible I would be so shocked that I couldn’t speak to him.
The 7th girl: My friend is a big fan of Rob, but I can only speak English, that’s why I am here.
The 8th girl: Of course I am # excited that he is here, but we won’t scream and rip off his clothes. :)

The movies other two world famous actresses are not here in Budapest yet (Uma Thurman, Christina Richie). The information is that the shooting will be here for two more weeks in the capital city. So there is chance for everybody to meet one of the big stars.

Thank you to ROBsessed user Aniko for the translation!

Last year, for the first time in the history of the MTV Movie Awards, we entrusted you with the task of selecting our nominees in categories like Best Fight, Best Kiss and Best WTF Moment. You didn’t disappoint, delivering support to “Twilight,” “Slumdog Millionaire” and a ton of other flicks in genres ranging from comic book flicks to rom-coms.

You did such a killer job that we’re putting out the call again: We want you to choose the nominees for the 2010 MTV Movie Awards! The power of the Golden Popcorn is yours — starting right now. Voting in 13 categories — some classics, as well as a few brand-new ones — is set to begin Monday (March 29) at noon ET at MovieAwards.MTV.com. The MTV Movie Awards will air live on Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.

Joining familiar categories like Best Movie, Best Villain, and Best Male and Female Performance are three fresh categories: Global Superstar, Best Ass-Kicking Star and Best Scared-as-Sh– Performance.

So what’s going to happen this year? Will “New Moon” reprise the success of “Twilight,” which nabbed seven nominations in 2009, including Best Movie and Best Kiss for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson? Will Best Ass-Kicking Star go to Hugh Jackman for his metallic-skeleton-assisted brawling in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” to Channing Tatum’s freedom fighter in “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” or to someone else entirely? Which Global Superstar — Johnny Depp? Angelina Jolie? — will be the first to take home this award?

These are the questions you’ll be answering when the polls open. Voting will run through 6 p.m. ET on Friday, April 9. After the nominees are announced, voting for a winner in each category will start May 11 and run through June 5. But voting for Best Movie will stay open throughout the awards show itself — meaning you’ll have a chance to affect the night’s biggest prize until the very last minute.

Rob, or films he has been a part of, are up for a lot of nominations, including:

-Best Kiss (Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart, New Moon)

-Best Kiss (Robert Pattinson & Emilie de Ravin, Remember Me)

-Best Female Breakout Star (Emilie de Ravin, Remember Me)

-Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart, New Moon)
