CHICKAMAUGA, GA. (WRCB) – A family in North Georgia is about to become part of movie history. Carol Cross says her husband and his brother own the home where scenes of the movie Water for Elephants will be shot later on this week.

The Cross family says they were approached about the film in the spring. Since that time numerous film crews have traveled back and forth to Chickamauga, Georgia to scout and prepare the site.

“A man just approached him and asked him who owned the house and wanted to know if it would be ok if they considered shooting a movie there, “Carol Cross says.

The family says crews spent months and miles on the interstate trying to find the perfect location to shoot the scenes dating back to the 1930′s.

“It has no electricity it has no water, no one has lived in it for 12 years,” Cross says.

Channel 3 Eyewitness News has learned actor Robert Pattinson, famous for the Twilight movie series, will be coming to Chickamauga later this week to film scenes.

Much of the equipment used to shoot the movie is being held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel.

“Sure we are going to be part of the history and there is gonna be people talking about this for years to come,” Cross says.

Choo Choo officials wanted us to make it very clear they have extra security on the scene for the movie equipment.

We have also learned film crews will also shoot at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum.

*I’m assuming most people aren’t familiar with Chattanooga, TN or the area. Don’t be confused when you hear talk about filming in TN and then in GA. You can see 7 states from Rock City which is located in Chattanooga. The state line dips between TN and GA right around Chattanooga. So whether they are filming in Chickamauga, GA or Chattanooga, TN, it is all the same general area. ~jen

The picture above includes 2 of the 3 items Rob brought with him while on a break on the set of ‘Water for Elephants‘. His 3 items: A pack of smokes, a Coke Zero, and a book.

The book is ‘My Friend the Mercenary‘ by James Brabazon

Synopsis:

In a fly-blown bar in West Africa, British war reporter James Brabazon found himself being briefed on covert military plans to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea by one of Africa’s most notorious mercenaries – his friend Nick du Toit. The Byzantine plot, its farcical execution and its tragic consequences led to Simon Mann and a host of celebrated guns-for-hire falling victim to their own avaricious plans, Machiavellian scheming and ruthless double-crosses. In a twist of fate, James Brabazon remained free. His mercenary friend wasn’t so lucky. Nick du Toit was sentenced to serve thirty-four years in Black Beach prison, Africa’s most notorious jail – a sentence which James could have been serving alongside him. Their unlikely friendship began two years earlier on the bloody battlefields of the Liberian civil war. With Nick as his bodyguard, James was the only journalist to film behind rebel lines. Establishing him as a brave and talented filmmaker, the war tested James’s physical and moral boundaries to the limit – and opened a door on to a dangerous world of mercenaries, spies and violent regime change. MY FRIEND THE MERCENARY recounts James’s courageous journey into the Liberian war, and tells the inside story of the most infamous coup attempt in recent history. Through this gripping narrative, James Brabazon explodes the myth of the modern mercenary, and paints a moving portrait of an extraordinary friendship. It is a brutally honest book about what it takes to be a journalist, survivor and friend in the morally corrosive crucible of war.

Principal photography is underway on the Fox 2000 Pictures drama, “Water for Elephants,” starring Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz, and some of the scenes will be shot in Chattanooga.  Missy Crutchfield, administrator of the city’s Arts, Education and Culture department, said, “The Chattanooga Southeast Tennessee Film Commission has been working with the production for over a month, while they have been here scouting locations and setting up offices, as they were preparing to film here.”  There was no word on whether the film’s top stars would be coming to Chattanooga for the filming.   Directed by Francis Lawrence and based upon the best-selling novel by Sara Gruen, “Water for Elephants” has been adapted for the screen by Richard LaGravenese. Erwin Stoff, Gil Netter and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing with Kevin Halloran serving as executive producer.  During the Great Depression, Jacob (Robert Pattinson), a penniless and recently-orphaned veterinary school student, parlays his expertise with animals into a job with a second-rate traveling circus. He falls in love with Marlena (Witherspoon), one of the show’s star performers, but their romance is complicated by Marlena’s husband, the charismatic but unbalanced circus boss August (Waltz).  Reese Witherspoon, who won an Academy Award for her role as June Carter Cash in “Walk the Line,” has also starred in such blockbuster films as “Legally Blonde” and “Sweet Home Alabama.”  Achieving a cult-like following from his character, Edward Cullen, in the “Twilight” films, Robert Pattinson also portrayed Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.”  Christoph Waltz gained worldwide attention when he won an Academy Award in 2010 for “Inglourious Basterds.” He also won a BAFTA, Golden Globe, Critic’s Choice and SAG Award for the same role.  Director Francis Lawrence’s previous directorial efforts include “I Am Legend” and “Constantine.”  20th Century Fox releases “Water For Elephants” next year.

Eclipse is still in theaters, but rumors are already swirling about potential casting for Breaking Dawn.

On Tuesday, Lee Pace entered the discussion.

An E! Online report claims the former “Pushing Daisies” star is “thisclose” to being cast as a vampire in Breaking Dawn. Specifically, Pace would play Edward Cullen’s pal Garrett, who has “a lightness and element of humor about him.”

“Lee is the top person in the running to play Garrett,” E! quotes a source as saying.

Gossip Cop suspected it was premature to call Pace — or anyone else — “thisclose” to the role, and it looks like we were right.

A production source tells Gossip Cop no one has been cast, and a rep for Pace informs us the actor has not been approached.

So while it’s certainly possible that Pace tops a current wish list for producers, Summit, or director Bill Condon — much like Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s loose “connection” to Batman 3 — Pace’s casting shouldn’t be considered imminent.

I know why the vampire sparkles!
July 26th, 2010 by ktholt

I finally read Twilight, and after hours of internet research, I’ve found a solution to a major problem I had with the story. I know why the vampire sparkles!

Of course, innate body glitter is just the latest thing wrong with vampires at large, so I’ll start with the broader picture and work my way to the answer to that new riddle.

First, I assert that vampires must be giant, highly evolved insects. That makes sense because most of the hematophages in the natural world are bugs.

Second, like many real bloodsuckers, vampires must feed before they reproduce. However, unlike anything in the natural world, vampires seem to reproduce entirely through horizontal gene transfer. If they don’t kill their victim outright, then vampire genes invade the host and trigger…

Metamorphosis. According to Twilight, the process takes days and is excruciatingly painful, which is logical given that the victim undergoes complete hystolysis and histogenesis without the benefit of a pupal stage, let alone general anesthesia.

But wait! How do vampires retain the memories of their human lives? Well, butterflies are apparently able to remember things they learned as caterpillars. While it’s doubtful that the same processes would apply identically to higher-order animals, anything is apparently possible with enough suspension of disbelief.

Furthermore, vampires appear to be ectothermic, or never warmer than their environment. ‘Cold-blooded’, in other words. Their stone-like ‘skin’ also seems more like an exoskeleton than warm, soft, human tissue.

What about vampires’ superhuman abilities? The Tiger Beetle is technically ‘the fastest running land animal’. The strongest animal is the world is the horned dung beetle. Insects also have incredible vision; most see colors invisible to humans and bees see in color at five times the speed we’re able. Vampires and other insects don’t breathe like we do, nor do they possess a human heartbeat. As an added bonus, invertebrates are notoriously hard to kill.

By now, I’m sure you’re all with me; vampires are bugs. But what kind? It took me a while to figure it out, but now I’m convinced that vampires are nothing more than overgrown, parasitic…

Butterflies!

There you have it. Vampires are gorgeous, metamorphosis is a key part of their development, and they are natural experts at camouflage and mimicry. Some butterflies have even been observed feeding on blood.

Why do they sparkle? That’s easy: Vampires, like butterflies, are covered in tiny iridescent scales.
