Men who spend hours in the gym bulking up to impress women might be wasting their time, as new research shows that the ladies prefer lean limbs in a partner.
New Zealand anthropologist Barnaby Dixson has studied what the sexes find attractive about each other based on history and across cultures.
The results revealed that women preferred a leaner, less muscle-bound physiques – aka Robert Pattinson over Jason Statham.
Although many men pumping iron in the gym assume they’re about to be jumped by hundreds of women, they might be better spent becoming svelte with more cardiovascular exercise.
Dixson said: ‘On a biological level, women are more likely to pick a leaner, even slightly more effeminate man as they equate those physical traits with being more caring and gentle and therefore a better prospect as a partner.’
He also found that both men and women are most attracted to others who are of the same attractiveness as themselves, the Daily Mail reported.
‘Women and men with those traits we consider biologically perfect will constantly attract the most high quality partners.
‘Humans simply do not mate randomly; it is very time consuming…. To pick a life partner,’ he said.
Let me be the first to say that I’ve got nothing against dedicated fans, but certain folks are sometimes a bit, well, let’s just say too dedicated. Maybe you’ve heard of ‘em? They’re called stalkers, and celebs just love their constant company, novel-long poetic letters and threats declarations of love.
So it’s no surprise that mega stars Robert Pattinson and Leonardo DiCaprio have the cream of the crop when it comes to these “loyal” lunatics. And with Leo’s alleged attacker (slash superfan?) making headlines lately with cries of conspiracy, we wonder which star sparks more insanity:
Robert Pattinson aka The Twilight Hottie
Top Suspect: Anonymous Trespasser
Hobbies: Real estate enthusiasm including in-depth research of home listing, trespassing with or without a little bit of breaking and entering into the homes of big-screen vampires, photographing R.Pattz’s personal possessions and possibly sniffing his underwear
Psychological Review: Uh, not great. Not only is it über-creepy to show up at his place in the hopes of…actually, in the hopes of what? I assume the fan(atic) figured Rob would be excited to see one of his fave Twihards and invite her in for a screening of all the Twilight flicks followed by an impromptu romantic serenade on the guitar. Sounds like a successful, totally sane plan to me!
More Mayhem!: Stalker paparazzo snapping mile-high shots of Rob and his gf Kristen on a plane from L.A. to Canada, proving that there’s literally no where in the atmosphere the dude can go without someone invading his privacy.
Leonardo DiCaprio aka The Titanic Hunk
Top Suspect: Aretha Wilson
Hobbies: Crashing Hollywood parties of famous “friends,” allegedly slashing People’s Sexiest Men’s faces with beer bottles, visiting Canada for extended periods of time that may or may not coincide with stature of limitations on assault violations
Psychological Review: She’s got the mental state of a game of Jenga. Not only does she claim the incident was Leo’s fault (despite her history of violence), but her trusty lawyer, Freddy Sayegh, offered up this doozy when trying to prove her innocence: “She’s been to his home and met his mother and child and they’ve had many outings.”
More Mayhem!: Aretha’s not the first fan to claim Leo is a father. We hear from Camp DiCaprio that he’s been accused of being a baby daddy many times to a certain someone that you may have heard of: Jesus Christ. Yep, that Jesus Christ.
Verdict: I’m going with Leo on this one. I’m not sure if it’s too many screenings of Gangs of New York, but violence seems to be a requirement to join the Leo DiCaprio stalker club. Plus, consider me cynical, but I just don’t see The Virgin Bar birthing the next messiah. But hey, maybe I’m the koo-koo crazy one.
It seems that over the weekend a line was crossed by the paparazzi when the lives of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were put in danger.
The paparazzi, having seen reports showing the address and photographs of their house, like the Hollywood Live exclusive, chased the couple from the airport, on Saturday, forcing them to seek refuge with the police.
There is admiration and obsession and then there is putting people’s lives at risk just to snap an opportune shot of two, obviously, secretive people on their way to their home to have a rest.
I would have thought the case of Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed being run off the road by paparazzi and killed in Paris, in 1997, might have taught those snap happy photographers something.
The Hollywood Life report also showed shots of inside the pair’s house in Bel Air. Gossip Cop recently made a good point. If the couple wanted their house to be in the public domain there would be a gorgeous color feature in this month’s InStyle or People but there’s not.
E! Online and other magazines and webzines reported “It’s literally miles away from civilization – you can’t even see it from the entrance way. It’s officially in the middle of nowhere…One entrance is protected by a huge gate, barbed wire and about 5 security cameras! If they want privacy, they’ll get it – minus helicopters, of course.” Why didn’t they just print the address?!
They should have the right to keep the inside of their own house a secret unless they decide otherwise.
I hope that Robert Pattinson’s recent experience with the mad paparazzi in L.A. isn’t going to turn him off settling in the east coast. A source, apparently a close friend to Pattinson, told Look magazine that he was very much looking forward to it.
They said “I think when Robert really thought about it, he realized that as much as he’d like to live in New York, he doesn’t want to be anywhere without Kristen.”
I hope he can manage to feel safe in his own home after his experience over the weekend.
The Twilight hunk never saw much of a future in fashion. “When I first started I was quite tall and looked like a girl, so I got lots of jobs, because it was during that period where the androgynous look was cool,” Pattinson has said. “Then, I became too much of a guy, so I never got any more jobs.”

And to think, the screen’s longtime Dracula, Bela Lugosi, died practically broke. But by a brand new count, the current vampire craze – on TV and in movies, books and merchandising – is estimated to be pumping some $7 billion (that’s with a b) into the showbiz economy. Suddenly, money is flowing like blood.
Taking into account the $20 million box-office of this past weekend’s batty Twilight parody Vampires Suck, the 5 million devotees of HBO’s weekly True Blood, and the bestselling titles from authors Justin Cronin (The Passage), Stephenie Meyer (Breaking Dawn) and Charlaine Harris (Dead and Gone), the Hollywood Reporter estimates that in the past two years, bloodsuckers have pumped new life into Tinsel Town, creating what the trade paper terms an “entire inexhaustible industry.”
“By starting with one simple mythological creature that’s been part of our literary universe for centuries,” Julie Plec, writer and exec producer of the CW series The Vampire Diaries, says of novelist Bram Stoker’s 1897 Count Dracula, “you can create a story that has it all: romance, horror, action, special effects, sex, epic love, wish fulfillment, romantic leading men, delicious bad-boy villains, female bad asses, damsels in distress, death, monsters and, ultimately, the perfectly flawed hero who would give it all up if it meant they wouldn’t have to spend eternity alone It doesn’t get more universal than that.”
Breaking down the numbers, the Reporter” calculates that recent vampire movies have generated $3 billion ($1.76 billion from the three Twilight flicks alone, along with another $160 million thanks to their home-video sales); vampire books, $1.6 billion; vampire merchandising (including vampire video games), $600 million; vampire TV shows and DVDs, $1.2 billion.
Vampire books, says one literary agent, “are just growing There is no one area in which it’s stagnating. It goes from fiction to [young adult] fiction to genre fiction – they are king.”
And still on the horizon: the November 2011 and November 2012 screen installments of Breaking Dawn, which are expected to make $1.7 billion, and several more movies now in development.
They include an adaptation of Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian, Justin Cronin’s The Passage, Dracula Year Zero, Castlevania and something called Vamps.
Ever since Rob started filming Water for Elephants, there’s been lots of mention of The Oscars aka The Academy Awards. The film is being buzzed about and so are the actors, including Rob *cue the surprised face*
In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at Rob at, what we dubbed that year as the ROBscars!
What I like to refer to as THE BEST 18 SECONDS WITH ROB EVER!
With over 42 million copies sold and translations in close to forty languages, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight novels – Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn – have captured the hearts of a generation of readers. At the centre of the saga is the epic love story of Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen (not to mention werewolf Jacob Black), star-crossed lovers the likes of which haven’t been seen since Romeo and Juliet. The film adaptation of this beloved supernatural romance was a huge success, and as the ravenous Twilight fans embraced the movies, relative-newcomers Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart transformed into international superstars.
Hitting bookstores when Eclipse hits theatres, Love Bites: The Unofficial Saga of Twilight features:
• the story of Stephenie Meyer and her publishing sensation
• a guide to each novel outlining the symbolism and literary allusions
• bios of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and the rest of the Twilight Saga cast
• the “making of” the Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse films
• a chapter dedicated to the “Twihards,” the Twilight fans who have made the books and movies such an unprecedented success
Love Bites: The Unofficial Saga of Twilight is a full-colour tribute to all the pieces of the Twilight phenomenon.
There were a few pieces of news in the world of Robert Pattinson over the course of the last week:
For those who didn’t know, Rob was nominated for the Nickelodeon 2010 Kids Choice Awards. Voting is open, and Rob is nominated under the ‘Favorite Movie Star’ category. Click here to start voting! Voting is open until September 26 and you can vote as many times as you’d like. The award show will take place on October 8, 2010 in Sydney.
Rob’s next film project, the Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, will begin filming in November and will continue into March of 2011. GossipCop recently confirmed the schedule. At this point in time, the film is set to release in the US on November 18, 2011.
The Stir blog put Rob at number 2 on their 10 Sexiest Vampires of All Time list. Here’s what they had to say about Twilight’s leading man: “What’s a hot vampire list without the most popular vampire in pop culture right now? Rob plays Edward Cullen in the Twilight movies and falls madly in love with Bella, a human. The love story between the two will make any woman’s heart swoon. Oh, and he sparkles. (Thanks to Spunk Ransom!)
UK’s the Daily Record did an interview with True Blood’s Stephen Moyer in which Rob was mentioned. If fans recall correctly, last summer Moyer made some comments about Rob’s Twilight character, Edward Cullen, referring to him as the “diet coke of vampires.” According to the new interview, Moyer says he apologized to Pattinson. “I sent him a message saying, ‘Dude, I hope you realise that this is a joke.” Moyer also clarifies that he was referring to Edward when he made the comments, not to Rob himself. “I did call him a wuss. But I didn’t call HIM that. I referred to his character.” No worries Stephen. All is fair in the immortal world, right?
Voting ended last week for EW’s Sexiest Beast Bracket Game. Rob’s Twilight character, Edward Cullen, made it to the final round, competing against Ian Somerhadler’s character from the Vampire Diaries, Damon Salvatore. Results will be available at EW.com on August 26. Fans can also find results in that week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly.
McAfee recently released the 2010 list of the Most Dangerous Celebrities in Cyberspace. Rob was relatively far down the list once again this year, ranking 30. Rob’s Twilight co-star, Kristen Stewart, ranked 20 on the list.
Rob recently won Glamour’s 50 Sexiest Men poll. This gives the star the title of ‘World’s Sexiest Man’ for the second year in a row.
