It’s official, Toronto is P.O.‘d, or Pattinsoned-out. At least for today anyway. The British Hearththrob took over Financial District today with Filming taking place for David Cronenberg‘s Cosmpolis – the first official outdoor shoot for the Film in the City.
With the street transformed into New York City with an abundance of yellow Cabs and its signature Newsstands, much of today’s filming centered around a Deli (click here to see). In attendance today were cast members Kevin Durand (who we spotted yesterday in Yorkville) and Sarah Gadon.Fans who lined-up early, were kept at a distance from their hopes of meeting the Twilight Saga Hunk. Handlers told them, “We won’t be bringing him over there!”, managing expectations accordingly. This didn’t prevent the determined from trying though as onlookers got a generously helping of Pattinson as he went in and out of his Trailer onto the Set just one block over.
An attention-shy Pattinson had his Lunch delivered to him in his deluxe Trailer from Craft Services and was seen with a bottle of Nestea Iced Green Tea in his hand walking into his Make-up Trailer for a touch-up. Noticing Paparazzi and Fans trying to snap away, he at one point tried hiding behind his Handler, before toughening-up and braving the Cameras. One Paparazzi got in a little too close and was warned, “You better stay back or I’m gonna make sure everyone else gets their Photos except you!”.
Ouch.
Wrapping around 5:00 PM, Fans received a friendly wave from Pattinson before he headed off for the day.
This video was unavailable yesterday, but we have it now!
Robert Pattinson has been shooting Cosmopolis in Toronto. Fans have been trying to locate him for weeks; I’m told both production and his personal management have gone to great lengths to keep him away from them. Logistics, for example. It’s not so much securing an area for safety, but they’re going so far as to consider venues for employee traffic and eyeballs, to eliminate the Twitter and Facebook elements as much as they can. Kinda sad, actually. Pattinson is stuck in a Twi-Hard prison which sounds like it would be an awesome digital short with Billy Hader playing RP and Bobby Moynihan as his most ardent fan.
On those occasions when it can’t be helped though, filming outside yesterday, with co-star Sarah Gadon, taking direction from David Cronenberg, they found a way to find him. Check it out – on a Sunday, this is how they chose to spend it. And… for why?
Not being facetious, really want to know.
Will he come out his trailer, make eye contact, and think to himself, “oh look, that’s the love of my life, who’s been waiting like a loser for 5 hours just to watch me walk from makeup to set… I must have her”?
Or, “Oh look, that person must be so cool, waiting there all day with nothing better to do, I must introduce it to my friends”?
Or, “It’s so attractive when someone spends their Sunday just waiting to see and scream at me, I want to get to know them better, for my personal growth”?
Some say it’s because they just want a photo…to post on their Facebooks or Twitters which, I mean, it’s not like any photo they take is going to be any better than these pap shots with good equipment and professional handling. And if somehow they manage to beg their way into a picture with him standing awkwardly beside them, boasting that up on the Facebooks is more like advertising the fact that you waited out there for 5 hours for him on a Sunday, non?
I’m sorry. I totally believe you that you were just walking by and it took no more than a minute. Forgive me.
Anyway, as previously mentioned, ever since he delicately handled an alligator on the cover of Vanity Fair, I have been OBSESSED with RoBbiE’s tea-pouring hands. They’re the first things I look at whenever I see new photos. At this point, I’m so fascinated, I almost want to name them.

David Cronenberg has made movies in Toronto about exploding heads, a man who turns into a fly and people who could get aroused by a car accident.Never before, though, had he been involved with a production that risked the potential horror show associated with attempting to fend off celebrity hunters.
Robert Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the “Twilight” films, arrived last week to shoot his starring role in “Cosmopolis.”
The story, based on a novel by Don DeLillo, is focused on a young asset manager who experiences a dramatic luxury limousine ride across midtown Manhattan, en route to a haircut.
While previous Cronenberg films shot in Toronto brought Hollywood stars to town, most notably former real-life couple Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis for 1986 science fiction thriller “The Fly,” they preceded the present-day appetite for candid shots of famous faces.
A staged promotional photo, taken by David’s photographer daughter Caitlin Cronenberg in the back of the stretch limo where Pattison’s character was posed alongside co-star Sarah Gadon, was immediately published on every celebrity website on the planet.
The image stood out because Pattinson was given the kind of makeover required to convincingly play a self-made Wall Street multi-billionaire, which required slicking back his trademark tousled hair.
But he wasn’t entirely into method acting, either. The 25-year-old British actor arrived for work in an Aerosmith T-shirt and a cap that bore the insignia of a California State University college team, the Long Beach State 49ers.
Pattinson wore that casual getup as he rehearsed a scene with Gadon on Sunday in the window of downtown Toronto diner Café Victoria. Afterward, he sat down to breakfast for the movie cameras while in costume, although it appeared he wasn’t going to let too much cholesterol affect his performance, let alone appearance.
Meanwhile, an atypical number of high-quality photos have surfaced from the set.
Canadian Tabloid, a blog run by Toronto celebrity sleuth John R. Kennedy, noted the fairly rare circumstances: “The film crew is one of the most professional in the city, choosing not to waste energy and resources battling the paparazzi.”
Just talked to two grips for the film. They are shooting the restaurant scene (night scene). They are just setting up. The grips told me the nightclub will be shot elsewhere. I can see the restaurant set up. Dean is outside Rob’s trailer giving us stink eye. Talked to Caitlin. She loves the blog and says we’re doing a good job! Talked to David Cronenberg, asked if he was having a good time on the set and he said yes, they’re having a lot of fun.
