Correction: This review was taken after a screening in Portugal!

MY Bel Ami Review. (ok, I know this sounds like a 3rd grade assignment but bear with me here it’s 1am)

I’m going to start with the big guns. TO ME, Rob’s performance in this movie was the best I’ve ever seen from him. Don’t get me wrong, I still think he did absolutely brilliant with the impossible role of Edward Cullen, and I still LOVE Remember Me’s Tyler. But DuRob?! DuRob has RANGE folks! DuRob can love you in a minute and fuck you up in the next.

YES, Rob’s performance in Bel Ami was better than WFE, and BD and RM. And that is all.

Shall we continue? Yes, we shall.

If you’ve read the book (and I seriously hope you did, because it’s one awesome book), the script is pretty accurate as far as adaptations go.

George DuRoy, penniless soldier, living in poverty in Paris until the day he crosses the path of an old military friend who gives him a hand and helps him get on with his life. This would be pretty simple, if DuRoy wasn’t a mofo who strives on getting what he wants (MONEY), when he wants (ALWAYS), from whom he wants (preferably, people that have scorned him).

There’s a lot of sex, some backstabbing and a whole lot of “yup, this is how it goes in real life, the bastard always wins”. The thing is, in the book DuRoy felt way meaner than in the movie. It’s like they gave him more of a purpose in the movie, more humanity, less I want-because I want and more, I want-because I need it. I almost felt sorry for him, ALMOST.

Clotilde is amazing. Christina perfectly nailed this sort of happy-go-lucky character. Their chemistry was off the charts!

Madeleine is sort of a bitch. I never really got her character. I guess she’s sort of a female DuRoy and well, lets just say things don’t go so well when those two get together.

Virginie, *facepalm*, Kirstin I just wanted to shake your character into common sense.

FAVOURITE BITS:

- The tear…that one single tear says SO much about his character!
- The scene with Clotilde in the greenhouse garden. “Why do you keep coming back?” : 33333 LOVE HER
- When he gets “Head of Gossip” at the newspaper and HE IS JUST SO TALL! You can just see the whole i’m.going.to.fuck.up.anyone.who.messes.with.me thing coming into being.

FANGIRLING TO THE MAX BITS:

- Angry DuRoy. *fans self*
- The Growl. <—- self explanatory, and yes I just capitalized that.
- The back! Congratulations on your back Rob. Seriously loving all the beauty marks here. Also, nice butt, really nice but…*stares into space* *dreamy eyes*

Other things that were kind of awesome:

- THE COSTUMES!!! I LOVE me a period piece, and I love me a period wardrobe and I WANT ALL OF UMA’S DRESSES BECAUSE THEY ARE FREAKING GORGEOUS!!!!
- The décors, she above, but LOVEEEEE.
- Budapest as Paris. <3

Ok, if you have any questions hit me! I’m sure I’m forgetting LOADS of things. I just wanted to write this while it’s still fresh in my brain.
