The Plot: Based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant (its telling subtitle: History of a Scoundrel), this drama follows the social ascent of a journalist (Robert Pattinson) as he romances and wrongs rich ladies (Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas).
The Buzz: While his Twilight costar and real-life girlfriend Kristen Stewart is running for her life in the medieval woods (see Snow White and the Huntsman), Pattinson can be found living it up in 19th-century Paris, making all sorts of trouble. That Simon Fuller, the mogul producer behind American Idol, also helped fund the film, speaks volumes about its allure.
The 2012 MTV Movie Awards is right around the corner, and the official nominees list is finally out. Perhaps the most highly anticipated category is for Best Kiss.
Three-time winners Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson have been nominated again for their Breaking Dawn – Part 1 smooch, but this year they have some pretty tough competition.
Their competitors include: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (Crazy, Stupid, Love.), Rupert Grint and Emma Watson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2), Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games), and Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum (The Vow).
Who do you think had the best movie kiss? Vote in the poll.
Bridesmaids and The Hunger Games earned the most nominations overall with eight each. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2 secured five, while Twilight: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 received just two. These four films, along with The Help, are nominated for movie of the year.
Be sure to tune into the awards show Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT — and relive last year’s Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards in the video below.
Can you believe it’s already movie awards season again? We’re talking about the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, of course — one of our favorite times of the year.
The official nominees list is out and full of fun new additions in category, performance and movie form. As in the past three years, “Twilight” is nominated in two areas that the fan-favorite franchise has dominated: Best Kiss and Best Movie.
This week’s Twilight Tuesday is all about analyzing what will go down live on the awards show Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, particularly with the history of “Twilight” and the Best Kiss category, which three-time winners Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson will likely continue to rule with their “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ smooch.
Their competitors this year are actually pretty fierce: Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone (“Crazy, Stupid, Love.”), Rupert Grint and Emma Watson (“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″), Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson (“The Hunger Games”), and Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum (“The Vow”).
Stiff competition or not, because Stewart and Pattinson have such a seriously dedicated fanbase and a great track record with both their Movie Awards appearances and award acceptances, we’re betting the odds are in their favor. It all started back in 2009, when Stewart and Pattinson took home the golden popcorn for their first onscreen kiss as beloved characters Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. It was all about the art of the tease back then, as the two stars didn’t actually kiss during their acceptance.
In 2010, they came back ready to play and treated fans to a wisp of a kiss after their win. Then, last year, Pattinson brought the house down when he stormed into the audience to plant a wet one on co-star Taylor Lautner.
We’re not ones to count chickens before they hatch, but what might Stewart and Pattinson do this year if they win? Kiss other co-stars? Kiss each other and all of the Cullen family in attendance?
