History of Spunk Ransom

The Spunk Ransom || Robert Pattinson fansite began as a MySpace between two strangers across the globe, Kristin Rielly (Owner) in the United States and Mareike Annies (Media Crew) in Germany, who shared a common interest, Robert Pattinson. The MySpace opened on July 10, 2008 and grew to 3700+ friends and more than 170,000 blog views in three months. The MySpace garnished the attention of The Movie Fanatic with Kristin as a writer and Mareike as a German correspondent for the Little Ashes Promotional Blitz project. With the popularity of the MySpace, Kristin took the  MySpace to the next level and this site was born.

What Others Have Said About Spunk Ransom

MTV’s Larry Carroll (12/28/08) said,

“Your site holds a special place in my heart, especially since the “Spunk Ransom” name was originally coined during one of my interviews with Rob. Somehow, as soon as the words came out of his mouth, I knew the Twilighters would love it!”

The Movie Fanatic (08/22/08) said,

“….is that kind of special place – chaotic but cool, fresh, versatile, friendly and hip.”

Meet the Staff

Kristin R. — Northern New York, USA — owner of Spunk Ransom. She decided in July 2008 to start the Spunk Ransom MySpace after having just spent a year blogging for a U.S. Presidential candidate. She said, “I needed a change of scenery in the blogosphere. I found myself searching for more and more Robert Pattinson news. There were a lot of great existing communities but I felt maybe there was a part of the community who was missing out on the current Rob happenings. This is where MySpace came into play. I had been talking with my friend Mareike Annies about a project we could do together. Mareike suggested a Rob MySpace and it was no slowing down from that point. The MySpace was launched in less than two weeks with friend requests pouring in. I wanted a place where fans from all over the world could feel welcomed by the owners. With that said, I became a fan of Robert’s having seeing him as Cedric Diggory in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”. His performance moved me. Not many actors can make me emotional. He did. I didn’t even know who he was but I thought he had great screen presence amongst his co-stars. As I got to know more about him, I liked his down-to-earth personal style and variety in movie role choices.”

Brittany S. — Sacramento, CA — a Senior Staffer, News and Media Contributor for Spunk Ransom. You may know Brittany from our partner sites, the Little Ashes and How to Be Promotional Blitz sites she she is their Project Manager. In her busy time online, she still manages to continue her education. She graduated with honors from Sierra College with an AA in Liberal Arts and will soon be getting an AS degree in Social/Behavioral Science. Currently, she has no idea what to do from here but will likely attend California State University in Sacramento. Here she will study business to pursue a career in PR/Film Marketing. Did you know that this is the same college Tom Hanks graduated from? She has high aspirations such as being a Film Marketer/PR Manager living in Los Angeles. So, with that experience, why Rob? She said, ” Trying not to sound cliché, but Rob is no doubt more than what we, the public, see. There’s something more to his British charm, crooked smile and creative talent. He may take our breath away physically, however behind the smokescreen there lies a cryptic individual, encompassing a mentality eccentric and rare, with something more to offer than looks and a representation of Edward Cullen. It’s behind the limelight that lies someone worth knowing.”

Katrina F. — Detroit, MI — a Senior Staffer and News Contributor for Spunk Ransom. Like many of Rob’s fans, she first discovered Rob in “Twilight”. After several viewings of the movie, she felt she needed to learn as much as she could about “the amazing actor” that played Edward. She learned that not only is he incredibly gorgeous, obviously, but he was also a strong actor. She said, “His performances in his other movies amazed me.” She also watched and read many interviews with him and fell in love with his down to earth attitude. She also found that his talent extends beyond acting. She said, “He is a great musician.” She is a Rob fan because she loves his attitude, his quirkiness, and his passion for all that he does.

Heather L. — Ohio — a Senior Staffer and News Contributor for Spunk Ransom. Like the rest of us, there was a special moment she discovered Robert. She said, ”It all started on a quiet Saturday evening with a trip to the local dollar movie theater. That is when my world was dramatically altered after a chance viewing of ‘Twilight.’ Discovering Rob in ‘Twilight’ was like finding a piece of you that you never knew was missing.”  Never did she imagine that the rest of his film work would project the same maturity and depth. The “icing on the cake” was when she began listening to his music. A fan of acoustic-driven music, she immediately hit the web to check out his recordings. That is when she found herself searching Google and Twitter for any and all Rob news. The more she read, the more she realized that she wanted to be a part of the voice that helped promote Rob and his career.  Her enthusiasm for Rob transcends the ‘Twilight’ series, as she finds herself eagerly looking forward to his 2010 projects and beyond. We look forward to having her as a new member of our family for 2010.

Robert E. — Northern, New York, USA — Media Contributor for Spunk Ransom.

Other Contributions

Jen B. –  Orlando, Florida, USA — Web Tech Support and former web designer for Spunk Ransom. She is an self taught web designer while in the real world she works in the travel industry. She learned how to web design through trial and error. What a beautiful job for trial and error, wouldn’t you say? She has been a fan of Rob for awhile. She said, “He is the reason I read Twilight and fell in love with it. He is the perfect Edward.” It isn’t only about Twilight though because she is an active member in the Rob community promoting both “How to Be” and “Little Ashes” through the promotional blitz projects at the Movie Fanatic. She said, “You can find me on IMDb and many other messages boards.”

Tracy G. –  Former News Blogger for Spunk Ransom. She currently lives in the southeastern U.S. after a childhood spent mainly in New Jersey and São Paolo, Brazil. With a degree in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish under her belt, she went on to become a radio morning show personality/newsperson and bookstore manager, before settling into court administration. She adores books and movies, which explains how she meandered into the Twilight world, and then discovered Robert in his various roles to date.  Tracy spends what little free time she has crafting what she says are “truly awful screenplays – complete with poorly-drawn characters, a meandering plot and stilted dialogue.” I bet many members of the Spunk Ransom family would disagree with that!

Elizabeth M. — Iowa — Former Media Manager and Assistant of Spunk Ransom. She makes sure you don’t miss Rob on tv or in magazines. She became involved with the website because she was a frequent visitor of our MySpace. She also is an active member of the “Help Save Moonlight” movement for the canceled tv show, “Moonlight”. She said, “Robert caught my eye while I was watching the “Twilight” trailer. He was the perfect Edward. I became a friend of the MySpace page Spunk Ransom || Robert Pattinson to find out more information. The more I read and watched, the more I was taken in by Robert’s unique acting and singing abilities, charisma and his genuine interactions with fans.”

Krystyna E.– California — Graphics Guru of Spunk Ransom. She happened to be friend requested by the Spunk Ransom MySpace and she said, “it was all down hill from there! I checked their site daily and offered my services and they were awesome enough to refer me to others! Thank you! After coming into the Twilight craze late, I was instantly in love with our Robbie when I found out he was going to portray Edward Cullen, already knowing his character from Harry Potter, I was excited to see him and when that Spunk Ransom video came out I was done!” She will forever will refer to him as Spunk Ransom. She also owns a TEAMspunkransom shirt, and her goal is one day have a drink with our Spunky and get a picture with him. She also said, “I am glad to be part of the phenomena that is Spunk Ransom I *heart* him so! I haven’t squeed over a celebrity since Orlando Bloom! I have very high hopes for him and I know he will be around for a while especially with the roles he has chose from indie to blockbuster. I am proud to be part of this site and proud to call myself a Spunk Ransom Fan.”

Mareike A. — Germany — Former Co-Owner of the Spunk Ransom MySpace. She became involved with the website because she wanted to be involved with something related to Robert Pattinson. She said, “I became a fan of Rob because of “Twilight”, but I have to admit that I didn’t like him in the beginning. I thought the role of Edward was too huge for him. But then, I became more involved with the movie, writing updates, and I saw pics and a lot of videos too. Suddenly, I saw him and it felt like for the first time I really recognized him. I was mesmerized by his hair (of course) and his eyes. I was interested in every tiny news I could possibly get about him and of course I watched his other movies. After watching his movies I’m always thinking “Wow, this guy can act!”. I feel pretty sure that he can play any role he wants to play. And of course, he captured me with his voice and his songs. He is such a normal guy, with his untidy hair and an old shirt and I hope he stays that way for a long time.”

Special Thanks

Jen — Thank you for never giving up on the site! The many chats and phone calls made Spunk Ransom live today because of you!

Laura — Thank you for making sure I don’t miss anything!

Shannon — Thank you for the e-mails and encouragement from the beginning of the site building process. You always listened and gave your opinion when I needed it.

Without these two ladies, Spunk Ransom would have never been finished. I dedicate the first day opening to Cine and Carol of Pattinson Brasil.

My Robert — Thank you to my fiance and love of almost 10 years of letting me be on the computer for hours on end to report on another Robert in my life. I love you.
